Kotobukiya Gets Marvel License

Just saw this today, Diamond Select will be importing Marvel statues from Kotobukiya. Kotobukiya is known among collectors for their execllent Star Wars statues. Kotobukiya appears to be expanding their reach with collectors by also doing DC and now Marvel characters.

The first one in the line is Wolverine, and the initial picture looks fantastic. At $175 however, I for one will be passing on these. I really like this news but that is too rich for my blood. Plus, I don’t have much space to start collecting these statues. Wolverine will ship in March.

Check out the Kotobukiya Wolverine here.

Bowen Designs News

Bowen, producer of many Marvel Comics busts and statues, has added images of 3 new Marvel busts to their site. On the Behind the Scenes page, you can now see images of the painted Ka Zar and Zabu bust, the painted Thunderbird bust and what appears to be an unpainted bust of Spider Woman II aka Julia Carpenter. See the Bowen Behind the Scenes page for pics.

In related news, the Havok and Polaris mini busts are now showing as being sold out through Bowen’s site although they are still available through other retailers, including this one.

Cover Browser

I just ran across this recently. The site is called Cover Browser, and it is a repository for images of past comic book covers. You can use it to browse comic book covers from Marvel and DC as well as others. The covers are organized by title for easy browsing, but it also has a search function.

It appears to be linking to scans of comics found on the web. There’s also links to find out more about individual comics or to buy them.

I found it to be a great tool, and it is something I will definitely bookmark for future use. Visit it here at Cover Browser.

Sideshow Collectibles Unveils 2 Heroes

Sideshow posted their weekly newsletter for subscribers tonight, and in it announced the unveiling of 2 heroes. First, they announced the first review of the first Sideshow Lord of the Rings figure, Strider. Sideshow says this item is due to ship in the next 30 days, but you can read the review before it ships.

Also, Sideshow announced the next Marvel Premium Format figure and it is Captain America! They have posted a preview of the Captain Amercia Premium Format statue here, and let us know the details will be available in next week’s newsletter. They also tease us about what the exclusive for Cap will be, promising us something great. Come on Sideshow, stop that!

X3 DVD Error?

Some smart comic book movie consumers have noticed an error with the extras on the X-Men 3 DVD’s that hit store shelves yesterday. It has been reported in forums and confirmed by this X-Men movie site that some DVD’s are being found with 21 deleted scenes and some have only 10.

It looks like this is an error on Fox’s part. I’m betting that they were meant to have 10 only, and some production error caused them to be released with 21. In any case, it appears to be random.

If you want these now, you better get them because Fox could correct this in the next run. After that, you will have to wait for them to show up again with all the special features that will be released with the next version. Good luck finding them!

Civil War Delay Hurting Marvel?

As most of you probably are aware, Marvel Comics blockbuster event this year was Civil War. In August, I believe, Marvel announced that they would be delaying issue number 4 of Civil War until September ‘06 and because of this they were delaying all of the Civil War books because they all tie together event-wise.

Much grumbling was heard over this in the comics community and rightfully so. Fans would not be able to get the books they were anticipating. Retailers would not be getting the books to sell, so potentially they stood to lose money. This was a big deal.

Or was it? Diamond’s sales figures are out for August and which comic book publisher came out on top? Marvel. Yep, Marvel beat out DC by 1% in market share for the month of August, in spite of holding back all their Civil War related books.

The top 300 comics is a different story though. DC had the number one book with Justice League of America #1, and Marvel only held 4 of the top 10 positions. Although, Marvel still have positions 2, 3 and 4 with New Avengers, Wolverine: Origins and Astonishing X-Men.

Think DC’s pissed?
