On February 14th, 2008, Sideshow Collectibles announced a deal with Hasbro to produce 12" action figures based on characters from G.I. Joe. As a fan, I am really looking forward to this line. The question is, why hasn’t Sideshow provided any more details on the subject this far along?
According to their press release, the figures are expected to release beginning in 3rd Quarter 2008. If that is still true, you would think Sideshow would have already given us details on what the characters will be and pre-orders.
Another alarming fact about this is the price. The press release mentions the pricing of these figure will start at $79.99. That would make this license Sideshow’s most expensive yet. At that price, many collectors will have to be choosy about what they buy, and even more collectors may stay away. If $79.99 is a base price, I hate to think what Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow will cost.
I am a hardcore G.I. Joe fan, but at those prices, I will probably only get one or two figures. I hope that Sideshow gives us more details soon and doesn’t make us wait until San Diego Comic Con to find out more.

Hasbro’s first wave of 25th Anniversary G.I. Joe figures for 2008 is starting to show up at retail now. This series is also known as Wave 5 of the 25th Anniversary figures. Apparently, Wal-Marts are getting them in first this time.
- Crimson Guard
- Iron Grenadier Destro
- Snake-Eyes
- Snow Job
- Sgt. Flash
The Snake-Eyes figures is a reissue from the G.I. Joe 5 pack that was released this summer. All other figures are new.

Doing a little research, I came across several figures in the new G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary series of figures that have variants. Most of these are in series 3 and the only other ones I know of are in the first series. I haven’t found any variants in series 2. Here is the list with the variation listed.
Shipwreck - Series 3 - The variant of this figure has an anchor tattoo on the right arm. The common figure has a shark tattoo on the right arm.
Zartan - Series 3 - Zartan has a packaging variant. One version has the logo that says “color changing face” on the packaging. The other version is missing this logo. Apparently, the one without this logo is more rare.
Stalker - Series 3 - The Stalker variant was a color correction by Hasbro. The rare version has yellow camouflage, and the corrected version has green camouflage.
Snake Eyes - Series 1 - The variant version of Snake Eyes has a black timber wolf. The common version has a gray wolf.
Cobra Commander - Series 1 - Not sure about this one, but some eBay sellers are saying there is a Cobra Commander variant. The variant is apparently that one has gold buckles on the leg and one has black buckles. This may be a running change by Hasbro, and I’m not sure which is more rare.
I’m not sure if there are any others out there, but if you find any, let us know. Thanks.

The new G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary figures are so popular they are impossible to find at retail right now! Anyway, series 3 is starting to show up in the US. Indeed, they can also be found on eBay. Here is the list of characters in this series.
Note: There is already a color-corrected variation of Stalker being found.

Take a look at the new G.I. Joe Snake Eyes mini-bust from Diamond Select. I am really looking forward to this new line of G.I. Joe mini-busts. I don’t believe I am going to be getting all of these, but I can’t pass up this Snake Eyes bust. These new busts were shown recently at the San Diego Comic Con. The Beachhead mini-bust shown there also looks like it will be too good to pass up.
Action-Figure.com has a gallery of the G.I. Joe busts from the SDCC here. By looking at the pictures, they showed 4 but you can see others in the backgrounds. Here were the ones that were featured along with release dates.
- Duke - April 2007
- Shipwreck - May 2007
- Beachhead - June 2007
- Lady Jaye - July 2007
The mini-busts will retail for $45. In the background you can see, Gung Ho and Snake Eyes, plus a Destro statue. DST has also previously announced Cobra Commander and Zartan mini-busts.
I hope these catch on and Diamond Select makes a lot more of them. I think mini-busts are becoming more and more popular with collectors these days. With the fact that G.I. Joe is still one of the most popular toy lines to date, the future looks promising.

Diamond Select Toys Expands G.I.Joe & Transformers Licenses at TNI announced today that Diamond Select has planned a new line of statues and busts featuring GI Joe and Transformers. Art Asylum and Plan B will be providing sculpts for the line.
I believe this is what fans were hoping for when Diamond announced they received the license for GI Joe collectibles last year. You may remember that Palisades formerly held the license for GI Joe and Transformers statues and busts, and they produced some good looking pieces. Sadly, Palisades went under last year. The new line will be revealed at the San Diego Comic Con in July this year.
