This bust was unveiled at San Diego this year from Gentle Giant. It looked amazing, I must say. The Sauron bust will stand 11 1/2″ tall and retail for $60. It is scheduled for release in May 2008.

Snaga, a scout in the band of Orcs that captured Merry and Pippen at Amon Hen, was the only surviving subordinate of Shagrat after the battle in the tower of Cirith Ungol. Scheduled for release in May 2008.

Michael Crawford is back with a nice review of the Lord of the Rings Balrog and Elrond mini busts from Gentle Giant. I knew that the Balrog was out but actually didn’t know that Elrond was in stores yet. What did Mike think? Go to his site to find out. The pictures look great!

When it rains, it pours. Gentle Giant is continuing to ship tons of product right now, including Lord of the Rings mini busts. GG let us know that amongst other things, the Lord of the Rings Saruman mini bust is scheduled to ship to retailers and distributors in 2 weeks. According to my calendar, that would be the week of September 24th. Look for Saruman soon at a retailer near you.
Update - 9/20/07: Gentle Giant let us know today that the Saruman mini bust will ship either next week or the week after that to retailers and distributors.

According to Gentle Giant’s latest blog post, another 100 One Ring replicas are being released inside upcoming Lord of the Rings busts. They are being randomly included in the hidden compartments inside of the busts, the same way that they did with the Strider and Ringwraith busts.
Here is the breakdown of rings to busts.
- Glorfindel Ringbearer mini bust - 1/25 chance & edition size 500 = 20 rings
- Elrond Ringbearer mini bust - 1/125 chance & edition size 2,500 = 20 rings
- Frodo in Orc Armor Ringbearer mini bust - 1/100 chance & edition size 3,000 = 30 rings
- Sam in Orc Armor Ringbearer mini bust - 1/100 chance & edition size 3,000 = 30 rings
So another 100 rings are out there. Good luck on your quest, collectors!

According to the Gentle Giant blog, the Frodo and Sam in Orc Armor busts from the Lord of the Rings line are now shipping to retailers and distributors. So look for them soon.
I for one passed on the Frodo and Sam in Orc Armor busts. I am looking forward to the Saruman and Elrond busts, however. Saruman and Elrond were both announced before Frodo and Sam, though it now appears that they won’t be shipping until after those busts. The funny thing is that according to Gentle Giant’s web site, Saruman and Elrond were both released in July.

Look for the Elrond Lord of the Rings mini bust at a retailer near you very soon. Gentle Giant announced today that, along with the Jabba the Hutt statues, Elrond is now shipping to distributors and retailers.
Lately, it’s been a dry spell for Gentle Giant product, but now the flood gates are starting to open. In addition to Elrond and Jabba the Hutt, the Princess Leia mini bust recently shipped as well as the Balrog mini bust and the Yoda on Kybuck maquette. And that’s not to mention all the exclusives. I think that collectors will soon be wishing for that dry spell again!

Gentle Giant updated their blog today to let us know that the Lord of the Rings Balrog mini bust and the Pirates of the Carribean Animated Davy Jones maquette are now shipping to distributors and retailers. I imagine they will be showing up near you in the next few weeks. See the official post here.
We let you know a few weeks ago that the Balrog mini bust was delayed until August. At that time, Diamond Comics, one of Gentle Giant’s biggest distributors, listed their shipping date for the Balrog as 8/29/07. It was originally scheduled to ship in June.
Also, Davy Jones is shipping earlier than expected, I believe. If you look here at the Davy Jones maquette product page, he is scheduled to arrive in Oct. ‘07.

Finally, I found a photo gallery of Gentle Giant Lord of the Rings stuff on display at Comic Con. While most of it is very cool to finally see in person (on my computer, natch), there is very little new stuff. But, there is an awesome bust of Sauron on display and a Lord of the Rings line of Classics busts. Go to Cool Toy Review to see the gallery.
The Classics busts are similar to the Star Wars Classics busts in that they appear to be smaller in scale and are armless. The busts they are showing are Legolas, Gimli and Eowyn. These retail for $30. While they look nice, they are out of scale with the 6 inch line of busts. I don’t have the dough to collect more than one of these lines, so I will just have to wait until they make larger versions of those characters.
Finally, there is another bust of one of the Orcs, but it appears they aren’t allowing photography of that one. You can see it in one of the CTR photographs here, but they apparently respected Gentle Giant wishes and did not publish any close up photography. I say to hell with Gentle Giants wishes and snap away! They are displaying product in a public place with thousands of people coming through hourly. I think it is mostly because they are unapproved prototypes that they post that. Anyway, as soon as I get some close up photos of the Orc bust, I will post them here. Update: Here is a close up pic of the new Gentle Giant Lord of the Rings Orc Bust up for display at Comic Con. Click on the thumbnail for a larger view.

Diamond Comics sent out a notice this week to retailers that the Lord of the Rings Balrog bust from Gentle Giant will be pushed back again. It was originally scheduled to ship in June this year. The new expected shipping date is 8/29/07. I guess they are having problems and they are trying to get it right. I hope they do because I love the Lord of the Rings line of mini busts so far.
