Harry Osborn Looks Like a Huge Tool in Spider-Man 3

goblin_harry.jpgWell, I’m surprised no one’s really talking about this yet, but have you seen Harry Osborn’s new costume in Spider-man 3? It basically makes him look like a huge tool. For those that don’t know, in Spider-man, Harry Osborn is the son of Norman Osborn and is played by James Franco in Spider-man 1, 2 and 3.

In Spider-man 3, Harry takes on the “Goblin” persona to get revenge on Spider-man for killing his father. I don’t think we know what his official villian name will be yet, but the rumor is, it is the “Hobgoblin.” On the official Spider-man 3 web site, he is listed as “New Goblin.”

The movie may give reason as to why the new Goblin costume is the way it is, but as soon as I saw the pictures, I thought it was embarassing. See for yourself in the picture above, which was taken from a desktop background downloaded from the Spider-man movie site. It basically looks like he is planning on playing a serious game of paintball, going snowboarding or participating in some other extreme sport.

I guess this is just another one of Sony’s lame changes to the Spider-man comics continuity. In this movie, we already have to endure the fact they are claiming that the Sandman is responsible for the death of Peter’s Uncle Ben, which is different from the comics. Also in the comics, Harry became the second Green Goblin but not the Hobgoblin.

Hopefully, the fact that Venom is in the movie will overshadow this embarrasment and redeem the movie itself in the eyes of the fans. I do expect the movie will be awesome and possibly the best one out of the three. But I’m afraid that this part of the movie may be laughable and remembered by fans the same way that Batman’s nipples are to this day.

X3 DVD Error?

Some smart comic book movie consumers have noticed an error with the extras on the X-Men 3 DVD’s that hit store shelves yesterday. It has been reported in forums and confirmed by this X-Men movie site that some DVD’s are being found with 21 deleted scenes and some have only 10.

It looks like this is an error on Fox’s part. I’m betting that they were meant to have 10 only, and some production error caused them to be released with 21. In any case, it appears to be random.

If you want these now, you better get them because Fox could correct this in the next run. After that, you will have to wait for them to show up again with all the special features that will be released with the next version. Good luck finding them!

Comics Movie News

In comic book related movie news, Marvel just announced that Robert Downey, Jr. will be playing Tony Stark/Iron Man in the new Iron Man movie which will begin filming early next year. What Eric Bana wasn’t available?

I expect a wide range of reactions from fans, mostly focusing on the negative. I agree that Downey is an interesting choice especially since this is his first lead in an action movie. I hope he does well in the role though, for Iron Man’s sake.

Also in Marvel movie news, it was confirmed that Doug Jones will be playing the Silver Surfer in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie sequel, which I believe will be out in the summer of 2007. This news was leaked earlier this year, but Jones refused to confirm it when asked at SDCC this year. Jones, who also played Abe Sapien in Hellboy, is expected to reprise his role in the sequel, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.

In other Hellboy news, an animated Hellboy movie, “Sword of Storms,” will air on Cartoon Network, Saturday, October 28 at 9:30 PM ET.

Finally in Marvel TV news, Spike TV announced that Blade: the Series will be canceled. Who knows if this the last we will see of it, but I suspect it probably is. I myself tried watching it several times, but it just wasn’t enough to really interest me. “Heroes” on NBC however kicks ass, and I hope it will get even better.

News & Notes

Here are a few random, upcoming news items that you might be interested in…

X-men 3 comes out on DVD a week from Tuesday on October 3rd. The DVD features deleted scenes and 3 alternate endings. There is also a special collector’s edition that features an exclusive original mini-comic written by Stan Lee. See the web site here.

Also, the pilot episode of “Heroes” airs tonight at 9 PM ET on NBC. Don’t miss it. I’ve been waiting for this all summer long! Check out the “Heroes” web site here.

And last, if you caught “The Simpsons” last night, you might have noticed a little “Star Wars” tribute. Bart and Principal Skinner fought while “Duel of the Fates” played in the background. If you noticed it, it was pretty sweet.

Punisher Special Edition DVD

Punsiher DVDComics Continuum just posted the facts on an upcoming special edition release of The Punisher on DVD. According to the post, the DVD is scheduled for release on Nov. 21. The disc will also feature 17 minutes of new footage.

In addition, there will be:

  • Animated Kuwait Deleted Scene
  • The Punisher Comic book Gallery
  • “Making of” featurette
  • All new Tim Bradstreet illustrations

The Kuwait scene, originally slated to open The Punisher, was never shot due to budget constraints. Although, when the DVD came out originally, it included a comic with a story that lead into the movie. I would guess that this animated intro will feature the story that was in the comic.

This should be a really good collectors item. I liked the movie and own the original DVD. I realize that they release new versions to increase their profits, but I hate it when they do this. I already own the movie and do not want to buy it again, but I would like to have the special features. Maybe I will rent it instead!

X-Men 3 on DVD

x3Marvel announces on their site that X3 will be released on DVD October 3rd. Here is what they had to say about what extras will be included.

The single-disc DVD release includes: three alternate endings, each with optional commentary by director Brett Ratner; 10 deleted scenes; audio commentaries from Ratner, the writers and the producers; a preview of the upcoming Ben Stiller movie A Night at the Museum; and two hidden “Easter eggs,” one of Beast reciting Shakespeare and the other of the X-Jet landing in Washington.

According to Marvel, there will also be a collector’s edition with an exclusive 100 page comic book with a new story by Stan Lee. In addition, all three X movies will be released together as a trilogy pack in the future.

With all the extras, this seems like a must have. I wonder since they are releasing this in October, what they will be releasing around Christmas time.

Ultimate Avengers 2 This Week!

Ultimate Avengers 2Ultimate Avengers 2 will be in stores on Tuesday. Target has it in their ad this week for $12.99, and it includes an extra disc with the Ultimates digital comic. Here is an excerpt from Marvel’s press release.

This August 8th, don’t miss the triumphant return of all your favorite Marvel Heroes — Captain America, Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, Giant-Man, Wasp, and Black Widow — in their second action-packed animated feature film! They are joined by the Black Panther as they try to find out what is behind the mysterious happenings that occur in his secluded African Kingdom. Only together can the Ultimate Avengers and Black Panther hope to save the country.

The DVD is packed with exciting extras such as a featurette on the original “The Ultimates” comic series, a gag reel, a “What Avenger Are You?” game, and a first look at two more upcoming animated feature films: Iron Man and Dr. Strange. The extras on this one look really good. I really enjoyed the first Ultimate Avengers movie. I will be picking this one up on Tuesday.

Look, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman

Superman artwork by Jim LeeLook, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman aired yesterday on A&E. I stumbled upon it as it was coming on, or I would have missed it myself. It is a 2 hour special chronicling Superman from his beginning in comics to becoming an American and later worldwide phenomenon. It focuses more on the history of Superman in the media from comic strips, radio shows, early movies and televsion shows, Saturday morning cartoons, a sitcom and the more recent television show and upcoming movie.

I really enjoyed watching it, and I think that anyone who is a fan of comic books should see this. Superman is the only DC superhero that I happen to like, and it was very interesting to see the origin of the comics and the history of Superman. It was also interesting to see the making of the movies in the 70’s and 80’s. The last 15 minutes or so features the new movie and a behind the scenes look at the next Superman. Here is the synopsis from A&E’s web site.

Here’s the story behind the phenomenon of Superman, the most merchandised and imitated superhero of them all. Through interviews with the key creative talents responsible for seven decades of thrilling Superman adventures, we’ll follow the Man of Steel’s path from Depression-era comic book hero to George Reeves’s TV portrayal in the 50s, Christopher Reeve’s movies in the 70s and 80s, and the TV shows Lois and Clark and Smallville. There’ll even be a sneak preview of the new film, Superman Returns, to be released this summer.

If you missed it, A&E will be airing it again the week that ‘Superman Returns’ will debut in theaters across America. Look for it on Thursday, June 29 @ 9pm/8C and Friday, June 30 @ 1am/12C. Visit the link above to view the trailer.

Superman Returns News

Azog’s recently reported some Superman movie news that I had seen on a few sites this week. It seems that Warner Brothers announced this week that Superman Returns will open on June 28th, 2 days earlier than previously announced. No word on why they did this, but my guess is that they wanted to increase the box office numbers for their opening weekend. That is usually why movie studios release movies on Wednesdays.

In other Superman Returns news, the new trailer which debuted during X-Men 3, is available on the Superman Returns movie site.

X-MEN: THE LAST STAND

X-MEN: THE LAST STAND the official movie site is now live. The movie opens on May 26th, which is just about a week away.
