Sideshow Collectibles Unveils 2 Heroes

Sideshow posted their weekly newsletter for subscribers tonight, and in it announced the unveiling of 2 heroes. First, they announced the first review of the first Sideshow Lord of the Rings figure, Strider. Sideshow says this item is due to ship in the next 30 days, but you can read the review before it ships.

Also, Sideshow announced the next Marvel Premium Format figure and it is Captain America! They have posted a preview of the Captain Amercia Premium Format statue here, and let us know the details will be available in next week’s newsletter. They also tease us about what the exclusive for Cap will be, promising us something great. Come on Sideshow, stop that!

Sideshow Collectibles

Sideshow Collectibles has some very passionate customers. Today, I have two examples of Sideshow customers promoting their brand for them. You can’t buy this kind of exposure folks.

First, is Sideshow Laundry Day by Dave over at Rebelscum. This is a tutorial for using water to soak the clothing of Sideshow’s 12″ figures in order to make it hang better and look more realistic. It is a great read even if you don’t collect these thanks to Dave’s great work and sense of humor.

Second, is something I did myself, the Sideshow Collectibles Calendar. I created a calendar using Google Calendar and added the expected warehouse arrival dates of upcoming 12″ Star Wars figures from Sideshow based on the e-mails they send out to collectors that ordered those products. With several figures coming in a few weeks time, this calendar lets you see about when these figures should be shipping from Sideshow. I plan to maintain this over time as well as add future pre-orders. I also added the current list of items shipping now and coming within the next 30 days from Sideshow.

Do you have any examples of this you would like to show? Do you have any ideas like this you would like to see done in the future? Let us know in the comments section and get your ideas or links published here. Thanks!

Forum Talk: Sideshow SDCC Exclusive Anakin/Vader Rumor?

SDCC AnakinDave from Rebelscum commented in the forums over there that the SDCC exclusive Anakin from Sideshow will have some variations from what has been shown already.

I can tell you the figure will have the paint issues of Ani addressed and the costume will be different, but I’m not at liberty to say how it will be different…

Not really a new costume, just –for lack of a better word– improved costume…

What will be done will insure that the Vader and ani figures can be displayed together and not look exactly the same.

From Dave’s comments we can infer that the issue with the paint heavy lips will be fixed. He also commented that it is probably too late in production to fix the issue with Anakin’s right arm not being tightly attached.

Darth Maul 12″ Figure and Droid Set from Sideshow

Sideshow Darth MaulAlthough it leaked on the Internet via an early issue of Star Wars Insider, Sideshow officially announced the next figure in their Lords of the Sith figure line, Darth Maul. Sideshow hinted that this figure was in the works by a little joke posted on their web site on April Fools day earlier this year. Sideshow also announced the Sith Probe Droid expansion pack. Here is the official announcement from Sideshow:

Darth Maul is the first figure to be sold through the Inclusive edition ordering process. Old West Ghost Rider Maquette from Sideshow

Sideshow recently announced one of their newest collectible statues in the Marvel movie line, the Old West Ghost Rider Maquette. From Sideshow’s web site:

Sideshow Collectibles and Marvel are proud to present the West Rider Maquette, based on designs from the upcoming major motion picture, Ghost Rider. Under the supervision of Creative Director Tom Gilliland, the Sideshow creative team studied the conceptual artwork created from the film, and together with sculptor Ray Villafane, translated the conceptual designs into a fully realized sculptural artwork. The prototype was finished with Tom’s paintwork, detailing and enhancing the sculpted cowboy clothing, bone, and fire.

The West Rider Maquette is sculpted in approximately 1:5 scale and stands roughly 17 inches tall. Each piece is hand cast and hand painted to exacting standards. West Rider is fully outfitted in cowboy gear, much of which has been consumed by flames, with embers still glowing. The figure is complete with a realistic rope, and the ever-’burning’ flames are cast in a translucent material designed to enhance ambient light. Each piece will be packed in a durable molded foam interior for safe shipment, and packaged inside a beautiful full color box.

The Sideshow Exclusive version of the West Rider Maquette includes a base ringed with flames, available nowhere else. Don’t miss out! Pre-order the Old West Ghost Rider Maquette from Sideshow today.
