DC Superheroes from Mattel

I’ve been waiting to post about these for some time. It looks like more information is starting to trickle out about them so I guess now is as good a time as any. DC Superheroes is DC’s counterpart to Marvel Legends, mass market counterpart that is. Many collectors know that DC Direct’s 6″ comic based line is comparable but they aren’t available at mass market and this usually means the price point can be twice as much. This is similar to Mattel’s comic based Batman line a few years back, and also will feature sculpting by the legendary Four Horsemen. However, they will also come with a comic, feature characters from Batman and Superman and are supposed to be superarticulated. You can view some early pictures from DC Superheroes on TNI.

There was more pictures in the most recent ToyFare magazine of these figures. From those pictures, it does not look like they have articulation comparable to Marvel Legends. The articulation looks more like the Zipline Batman from the first series of Mattel’s Batman figures. However, looking at the pictures from the link above, it looks like some of them will be pretty poseable. We will have to wait and see as these are scheduled to be released in January 2006. I will say that I like the packaging and the sculpting. I am generally not a fan of DC but I am a Superman fan and have a few DC figures. I will definitely check these out.

Here is the line up:

Wave 1:

  • Batman
  • Bane
  • Scarecrow
  • Killer Croc (with new head sculpt)

Wave 2:

  • Superman
  • Bizarro
  • Doomsday
  • Supergirl (Kara In-Ze - white shirt version)
