Spider-Man 3 According to the Comics

With Spider-Man 3 coming out on Friday, this is Spider-Man Week at Hero Hunt. To celebrate, I’ve compiled a list of Spider-man 3 movie plot points and their occurrences in the comics.

We know that the movies typically try to combine many of the important comic book moments into one film. As a result, the movies often change the comic book continuity. Here’s the list of what actually happened in the comics and the issues in which they occurred.

  1. The first appearance of the Sandman - Amazing Spider-Man #4, Sep. 1963
  2. The first appearances of Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn - Amazing Spider-Man #31, Dec. 1965
  3. Harry Osborn becomes The Green Goblin for the first time - Amazing Spider-Man #136, Sep. 1974
  4. The return and death of the burglar who killed Spidey’s Uncle Ben - Amazing Spider-Man #200, January 1980
  5. The first appearance of Spider-Man’s black costume - Amazing Spider-Man #252, May 1984
  6. Spidey’s black costume is revealed to be a symbiote - Amazing Spider-Man # 258, Nov. 1984
  7. Venom’s first appearance (a last-page cameo drawn by Todd McFarlane) - Amazing Spider-Man #299, Apr. 1988
  8. Venom’s first full appearance - Amazing Spider-Man #300, May 1988
  9. #300 also featured Spider-Man reverting back to his original red-and-blue costume - Amazing Spider-Man #300, May 1988

Now you know Spider-Man’s true history, according to the comics, and which issues you need to have to get the full story of the events depicted in Spider-Man 3. Enjoy!
